What is the Open Innovation Call?

As part of our Open Innovation Call, we are looking for innovative solutions to specific challenges faced by EDEKA within our Future Readiness Categories. Any technology provider that can solve these challenges may pilot and validate its solution in a real environment and with suitable experts – provided the EDEKA fit is given.

The Future Deli Counter
The fresh deli counter is the heart of many EDEKA stores. This is where quality, freshness, enjoyment, merchandise knowledge and craftsmanship come together. Self-employed merchants want to continue to adapt the range of products at service counters to new customer and product groups in the future and thus create an offer that clearly sets them apart from the competition. We are looking for technical and process solutions that can optimize various aspects of everyday life at service counters.

What’s behind the challenge?

The challenge can be divided into three categories: customers, employees and concepts. Under customers, we include all solutions that contribute to the shopping experience of our customers. Customers perceive waiting times, confusing displays and inappropriate offers as annoying and have become accustomed to the technical progress of recent years, especially in system catering. We also welcome new, growing customer groups with specific requirements in our stores. Our employees are recipe experts, trusted specialists and weigh every piece of merchandise to the gram. The shortage of skilled workers is also noticeable in the recruitment of new staff for the service counter; experienced colleagues want to spend their working hours with customers and not with administrative processes. Concepts deal with all innovative technologies or processes that are not yet found at service counters. These include process improvements for speed, convenience, new materials or product presentation concepts.
